Social research is used to explore the needs of different communities and asks questions such as:

• What are the needs of the community, and

• What are the best ways of addressing these needs.

There is broad diversity in the areas of need, where one useful tool for thinking about the different areas of need is a Wellbeing Wheel (as shown). Insight works with all areas of need, and on the Insight website we have described:

• Housing and Physical Needs

• Family and Relationship Services

• Leisure and Recreation

• Mental Health and Wellness

• Physical Health and Disability Services

• Personal Safety

• Defence and Emergency Services

• High Risk Behaviours, and

• Corrective and Legal Services

It is worth noting the community members may also have complex needs where they would benefit from support in more than one of these areas. This includes situations where a deficiency in one area impacts other areas of their lives.
