Leisure and Recreation

Each community members needs recreational activities that are culturally appropriate for the individual person and the community. Recreational activities include sport, events, travel and tourism, hospitality and the arts. It is important to note the impact that leisure and recreation has on participant health and wellbeing ranging from:

  • Positive impact - such as through increased participant enjoyment, physical activity, and social inclusion

  • Negative impact - such as through injury, and stigma and intolerance towards some participants

Some of the other challenges that members might face engaging with such activities include:

  • Access to appropriate programs and facilities, and

  • Access to activities that are physically, intellectually and culturally appropriate

 

Insight provides consulting and training services for leisure and recreation services. Insight is a Company Partner of the Research Society in Australia, and Insight CEO, Dr Mark Griffin, is certified as a Qualified Professional Researcher with the society. Insight is a Member of Destination Gold Coast (the Gold Coast’s Regional Tourism Organization), and the Queensland Tourism Industry Council.

Insight CEO, Dr Mark Griffin, has provided event and technical support to activities of the Griffith University Gold Coast Student Guild since 2023. The Guild runs programs in the areas of Wellbeing (physical and mental), Sport and Fitness (including nutrition and return from injury), Academic Support, Careers and Employability, University Life and Navigation (including childcare, money management, legal help, accommodation and transport), and Community and Culture (including diversity and inclusion).
