Gender Diverse

Communities are made up of people from the full spectrum including men and women. Each person experiences joys and challenges from their identity and how they relate to the world around them. Additional challenges are often faced by people who experience gender differently (including members of the LGBTIQA+ community).

Women are traditionally seen as the primary caregiver for their households and families. Women still experience challenges such as equitable access to employment, pay disparities, and access to community services that suit their needs.

While men are often seen as a less vulnerable population, men face their challenges. Amongst other things, data suggests that men are around three times more likely to be a victim of suicide than women. Organisations like Men's Shed are focused on helping men with the challenges they face.

Members of the LGBTIQA+ community may face challenges to understanding and acceptance by some members of society, and access to community services that suit their needs.
